Password protection for file haring in XP?

I have a file server that I want to be able to access over my network but I dont want just anyone to be able to access the files and I would like to set it up so that I would have to log in with a username and password in order to access the files. I have been trying to figure this one out on my own but am stumped. I am running win xp pro sp1.

Also what is the diffrence between sharing and security. I have fooled around with the options in these 2 tabs and cant figure out if I should fool with just the sharing, security, or both of them.

Much thanks in advance!

In your folder options, turn off simple file sharing, this will let XP Pro use the standard security model that's been around since NT. Then you can set up usernames and passwords on the server and disable the Guest account.
