XP boot.ini
I find plenty of info on setting up multi-boot. I need to REMOVE multi-boot. The system had Windows 2000 Pro, I installed XP Pro and it helpfully set up a multi-boot. Problem is, i have removed 2000, so the multi-boot option isn't helpful, it's just annoying.
I learned that renaming \boot.ini isn't helpful. Having restored the annoying /boot.ini file, before I dare edit it I came here. Can I set the timer to "=0"? Is there a way to remove /boot.ini entirely? Or change it to an empty file? Can I remove the [Operating Systems] lines and leave the default (XP) as the only boot option? Thanks, as always, for your feedback! -Bob |

Control panel, system, advanced, startup and recovery options - select your default OS and uncheck the box to show list of OS's.

Also, might be able to try Start Menu, Run, msconfig, boot.ini and manually adjust it.

If all else fails, boot from your XP cd and press 'r' to get into repair mode. Then type 'fixmbr' to restore xp's master boot record.

datadude, msconfig shows boot.ini but doesn't let you edit it, just some boot options you can add (like /safemode). That was the first place I went. Thanks, once again, for the help!!! -Bob |
