There is an option some where in XP where you can turn off those annoying balloons..Not sure where..look in the help section of XP.

are you using windows xp pro
or windows xp home

the one unity is describing is for pro

this one is for home

To do this Click Start, right-click at the top of the Start menu where your name is displayed, and then click Properties.
In the Taskbar and Start Menu Properties dialog box, on the Start Menu tab, click Customize.
Click the Advanced tab, and then clear the Highlight newly installed programs check box.
Click OK, and then click OK again.

if i turn those ballons off then isn't it still going to tell me that it found a new hardware in a different way. but the weird thing is that if i reformat and reintall windows on the same computer then it wouldn't even have those, which i think is normal
