Computer "lags" on certain programs
when I do some tasks on my new computer there is a lag time when i double click what I want to open. for example. say I want to open a video through windows media player, when I double click the player opens then seems to freeze not doing anything for like 10 seconds, then it opens. and the same thing happens on a few other programs. not my computer is not lacking on the specs, I think something may need to be tweaked on my system to fix it and I dont know where to start. any ideas?
btw my system specs are in my sig |

What programs do you have running in the background? Have you checked for spyware, trojans, and virii?

I have a similar thing with my computer... I check for spyware etc., it's just the programs running in the background. The best fix for this is a patience patch

checked for spyware, and viruses, none. its more or less only when i open new windows and stuff, like if I open my desktop properties to adj video settings it happens, wmp, anda few others. I dont think its background programs, because I dont have all that much running, and I have more than enough computer to handle alot of tasks esp with hyperthreading on I should not have this problem

Have you defragged lately? Might want to try deleting your prefetch files.

Taken From Microsoft Website -
"Windows XP monitors the files that are used when the computer starts and when you start applications. By monitoring these files, Windows XP can Prefetch them. Prefetching data is the process whereby data that is expected to be requested is read ahead into the cache. Prefetching boot files and applications decreases the time needed to start Windows XP and start applications." Have you gone to housecall to check for viruses and fully updated your spybot and adaware? |
