Security Update d/l for xp every day?

Everytime I'm connected to internet, I get hit with automatic updates and it's always this;

Security Update for WindowsXP
Multiple security issues have been identified that could allow an attacker to....

So faithfully I d/led. But lately I have a nagging feeling something's not right. Should I just turn the auto update off? Is everyone with xp get this type of update alot? Since it's from MS with MS update, this can't be a virus... is it?

I am not sure if you just have your machine set to automatically d/l and install updates.

If you do, you can look at Help & Support > Windows Update. There you can check for new updates and actually monitor whether or not they were actually downloaded and installed correctly.

I've had problems with that too. What I have done is acutally gone to the Windows Update site to download the updates. For some reason, using the automatic download feature doesn't always work.

It seemed to me I'm downloading the same thing over and over. Usually when d/l is completed, pc is prompted to reboot itself to complete the process, right? Mine never does.

The fully automatic feature simply doesn't work in a lot of instances. You should get better results and eliminate the problem doing it manually. If that doesn't work, you may need to update the Windows Update engine itself.

I don't automatic nothin'. They seem to cause more problems than fix. I'll just do it manually.
