when i first turn on my computer and it starts to boot up it stops and says a file is missing so i have to hit enter three times. the files missing are vnetsup.vxd,vredir.vxd,dfs.vxd. and then right before windows will load i get a window message that says , unable to load the dynamic link library msnp32.dll. how do i find these files and put them where they belong?

you can run sfc and specify file per file to be unpacked.
have your win98 disc ready.
you run SFC this way : start - run - type in sfc + enter

For a try at a quick fix, try:

1) Start/Settings/ControlPanel/Add-Remove Programs/Setup . . . remove everything in Networking tab.
2) Reboot
3) Start/Settings/ControlPanel/Add-Remove Programs/Setup . . . recheck the Networking components, especially Dial-Up Networking, that you previously uninstalled to re-install them.
4) Reboot

That might do it. [If not, you can try some other remedies such as those from some older threads lke this one http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.p...ghlight=msnp32 - you can also look to see if your network adapter is installed OK ]

Those are all Windows Networking files. The quick fix try is nice because you don't have to specify where the files need to go - Windows will do that for you.

Best of luck
. . . Gary

[p.s. --- just saw noby's post: that's a good way to "extract one file from disk" (the option box in System File Checker) if you decide to replace them manually - you'll probably need to plop them in C:\Windows\System if you give it a go ]
