+++ Can't install WinXP Pro after trying to clean install XP.
hi everybody. pls help me here. i tried to clean install a win xp, and so i put the cd-rom and followed the steps. i came to where i choose which partition to choose for my new install, i chose the big one, 'cause the other one was too small. i hit delete to create a new partition on the big one, but it said it cant delete because it contains temp. files to install xp. so i did some research and found this
"by: gebo21 Go the win 98 boot floppy, run fdisk, delete non dos patritions, then create a new partition you can also format as fat 32 then reformat to ntfs after you start your xp setup... if all else fails theres always the low level format " so i did that but now i cant install winxp with setup disks that i installed my xp when the hd was brand new. if i boot w/ win98 boot disk, theres also no way to install or start XP. when i boot with the xp startup disk, i get: verifying dmi pool data, Missing operating system. what can i do? Thanks. |

Boot again with the Win98 floppy, delete the partitions but don't create new ones.
Then boot from the XP CD to start setup. There you can create and format the partitions. RJ

It still sounds like a wrong boot order to me.
Have you set the CDROM to be the first boot device ? Have you put your WinXP CD into the first optical drive if you have more ? Have you set the CDROM to AUTO in the BIOS' IDE setup ? RJ |

If this is not a genuine original XP cd, that's very likely the problem, and we can't assist any further as per the forum FAQ. Nonbootable CD = out of luck, burned copies are often not burned properly.
I'm not accusing you of anything, just pointing out a possible issue. If the CD is genuine and will not boot, you are going to have to fix your hardware so it will boot - or you are going to have to zero fill the hard drive with the manufacturer's utility, make or get the 6 XP bootdisks, and install like it's a new blank hard drive (which it will be after the zero fill). |
