access the net
Hi,
I think this should belong here. My relative is using WinXP Pro on AMD Athlon XP2000 with 256MB RAM. ADSL USB modem for net There was no problem with connecting to the net till recently. Firstly after connecting the webpage or any page cannot be loaded. Secondly any software or programs load slowly. I did a ctrl + Alt + Del, to take look at performance and the CPU usage was always between 90 to 100%. Thats the reason for the lag I know. Next I took a look at the processes and this process "avserve.exe" was the one taking most of the CPU time. I ended the process (crossing my finger that windoze wld not crash) and all worked fine. Sytem did go smoother and could access the web pages without problem. Now, how do i know if it is needed for windows and if its not how am i to make sure it doesnt load again? Just for info, the last programme my relatve installed was msn messenger 6.2 thx for helping bye |

well, i googled avserve.exe, and there were no entries, however, there were a couple for avserv.exe. this was an IBM token ring network driver. i would say that if everything is running fine, than you are safe to disable it. to stop it from starting up do the following:
start -> run -> type msconfig -> find avserv.exe and disable it. restart your computer and you should be golden. craig

Think you need to install and run Adware and Spybot, too. |
