If the software was writen to run on Pro, it'll run/should run with the service packs.

Companies that sell software generally want you to be able to use it. If the software requires a certain service pack they will in all likelihood tell you so.

A more important question is why would you not want to install SP4?

Do you want to be open to attacks from everybody and their brother? Patch that OS before you lose all of your data.

Definitely get those service packs. I don't understand why you wouldn't want to get them. It doesn't take all that much time to download them, assuming you're on broadband, and the gained security is much more valuable than the little time you will spend getting and installing the updates.

Anybody that connects to the Internet with Windows 2000 without SP4 and all critical updates is asking for problems. You can't *count* on the software telling you that service pack "X" is required, but it *should* say it somewhere in the fine print.

I can guess why he doesn't want to install any service packs, but I'll refrain from being accusatory and we don't talk about that stuff here anyway.

the reason why i dont have service pack 4 is because the last time i did install internet wouldn't work after the installation, another reason is that i dont need it and dont have problems with my current computer

I have no viruses now so I will not install any anti-virus software.

I hope you hear what you are saying, but do what you must.
