Hey everyone,
I've got a problem. I decided to format my comptuer this weekend, because it had become quite sluggish...slow etc. When clicking the menu it takes a few seconds to open...very frustrating. I formatted and reinstalled windows XP, but still my system is sluggish. I can't understand it. I'm using a laptop with 1024mb ram, P4 2.8, 80gig hard drick, 128mb graphics..etc. Can anyone help me out here? Should i reformat again? If so, can someone give me some info on how to do a full format using the best possible method? Thanks a lot you guys |

Do you have a lot of programs running in the background? (many icons down in the system tray)
Have you run adaware and spybot to scan for spyware? Some of it causes bog downs. An AV scan wouldn't be a bad idea either. AVG is free, if you don't have AV software already. If you don't have a firewall either, Sygate is a good one. How long has it been since you last formatted?

Hey there,
I have almost nothing running in the background. I've made it a point to not do this becasue it uses resources. I've installed few programs so far. I've scanned for virus and nothing is coming up... I installed spybot and adaware, but haven't ran them yet as I'm aware sometimes they can remove some files that are part of windows. It was abotu 3-4 months ago when i last formatted the computer. Everything was great after that time. It's a bit weird. Maybe I need to defrag the disk? Would that make any difference considering I've just formatted? |

I've been running adaware and spybot for over a year, and other members here have been using them as well. They're safe.

Yeah, I've had them for ages, but on friday i read an article in a computer magazine about adaware deleting some windows files. The guy said that it took ages for the computer to shut down everytime after this, so recommended checking what it is deleting the first few times...

i have had the same thing happen and don't yet know why. i feel perhaps it happened after all the updates
or maybe it happened when i did some xp tweaks such as preftech and removing msn or unloading dlls still don't know what caused this on at least two machines i had worked on recently. |
