this is from the help and support center in windows xp
To turn the Welcome screen on or off You must have a computer administrator account to turn the Use the Welcome screen feature on or off. Open User Accounts in Control Panel. Click Change the way users log on or off. Do one of the following: To specify that users log on to the computer using the Welcome screen, select the Use the Welcome screen check box. A user logs on to the computer by clicking his or her user account name on the Welcome screen. If a password is assigned to the account, the user is prompted to type it. To specify that users log on to the computer without using the Welcome screen, clear the Use the Welcome screen check box. The Welcome screen will no longer appear when you start the computer. To log on to the computer, type your user name (and password, if you have one) in the standard Log On to Windows dialog box. Notes To open User Accounts, click Start, click Control Panel, and then double-click User Accounts. Fast User Switching is available only when the option to log on using the Welcome screen is turned on. |

if you just want you account to load strait away when you start the computer download the Microsoft power toy tweak ui from http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/p.../powertoys.asp
it has the option to auto log you on but that all so means any one turning on you computer gets strait to your desk top

You can also skip the "loading" screen by:
Start > Run > msconfig > BOOT.ini > and check the box next to /noguiboot Obviously the OS still needs to load, you just won't see the screen showing this step, it will just be a blank, black screen. |

k thanks for help. another quick question: does skipping (or rather not seeing) the loading section make it boot faster?

yes and no as you go strait to your desk top then it seams faster but the computer still has to load all the drivers and user profiles which it dose behind the welcome screen any way
so the time difference is just the amount of time it wood take you to click your log on icon and enter any passwords |
