Device Manager refuses to uninstall devices
First, let me appologize for "cross posting"
My problem is this: IN win XP home, the device manger refuses to allow the un-instalation of the mutiple UBSto Ethernet adapters that it thinks are installed. after several attempts, the same message is returned it is " Failed to uninstall the device. The device may be required to boot up the computer" this message even apears when I try in safe mode. the reason i need to unistall the drivers is I have a conflit between the "installed" USB adapters, IE: All seven get the same IP address so, no net trafic is allowed. Pls help, I am stuck. My cobbled network was working until about a week and half ago. Last edited by Kitchkenet; 05-04-2004 at 04:31 PM. |

Kitchkenet,
Have you tried just disabling all of them save one? -LW |

well, that wouldn't work they were still using the same IP.
I have had success however, I went to war in the registry and won :-). Microsoft is in it's corner quivering in fear. hehe The adapter was manufatuered by Microsoft and I kicked it's butt. I just deleted all references to it in the registry, rebooted, and then I could uninstall them in device manger. It seems the because it was a M/S product, it decided that it was important enough to disallow uninstaltaion. thanx for the suggestion though. |

arggh! I reinsatlled the adapter and guess what, the darn things all returned.
It must be a software issue with the driver for the device. any other suggesstions? I am about to mail this thing Directly to Bill and demand he put this thing you know where. :-) |

Yet another reason why I won't use M$ networking hardware. I don't like USB networking either, as I indicated in your other thread, but when I *have* to do it, I've had decent results with Linksys USB adapters.
