Win 98 msconfig question
I replaced a burner on a friends Gateway Celeron 400 mhz No problem before, he says, but it started rebooting afterwards randomly, and I could only get into safe mode, and it rebooted several times, even while in the middle of rebooting. Tried for about an hour, then brought it back to my place. I expected a worn out PS. Hooked it up and it went without a problem. Then I thought it was conflicting drivers, etc, so I tried diagnostic startup. No problem, except it was slow. His resources down to 47 % at rest, since he has so much running. I ran msconfig>startup. When I try to uncheck a box, it takes me 5 clicks on each box to remove the check. On the prior screen, what boes should be checked? Process 1. config sys 2. autoexec 3. ssystem ini 4. win ini 5. start up items.?? When I can't remove the check to eliminate some items at start up, I tried removing the check in the box on the prior page " process start up items" Then the checks in the boxes on the next page are all removed and it won't let me add the ones I want. So- I just clicked each check to remove 5 times. to get where I wanted. I have never seen that happen before. Before I did that I ran Spybot and AdAware, Norton AV and Housecall. Nothing. What made the boxes so difficult to uncheck in msconfig ?
