Not sure if anything on this WinMe networking troubleshooting guide will help, but you could take a look just in case http://www.homenethelp.com/help/networking-me.asp
My first step would be to check with the ISP to see if there's a known error & a known fix that matches your case. My wild guess would be to try a different computer name. [This is truly a wild guess: like picking a horse in a claiming race] I've set up a bunch of Win98 networks, but I've yet to use the networking wizard, especially for WinMe - so unfortunately I don't have any direct experience with that. But perhaps a fellow WinMe/Arris user will post with some helpful info. ...by the way, did the USB setup of the device seem to go OK? [did WinMe detect the new device (the Arris) & find the drivers on your installation CD?] . . . and - did the Arris work fine when just connected directly to one computer? [It's usually best to setup cable modems directly to one computer, then add in the router/hub later, then add computers one at a time to the network & test their connections] --- In fact, if the Arris/Ovislink had several computers all networking OK, & you're just now adding a WinMe machine, not much configuration should be necessary, beyond using the same workgroup name, and then setting up the security of any shared folders, and deciding on passwords for connections from the other computers on the LAN. Since it took me so long to answer this though, I'll bet you've got it working already! . . . Gary |
