Is XP Pro more secure than XP home?
An IT person at work told me that XP pro was more secure than the home edition but would not elaborate, is this true?

It is easier to set up granular security on XP Pro, and XP Pro does have support for Encrypted File System (EFS). However, both XP Home and XP Pro are pretty much the same system kernel-wise, so both are susceptible to the same security holes. So the answer really depends on what kind of "secure" you are talking about.

I was thinking in general terms and had assumed they would be the same.

depends on what you mean:
secure from the internet outside world. or secure withen the lan. there both equal for the internet with a router. and on the lan, pro has a bit more networking utilites for domane networks like a company uses. |

You can disable simple file sharing with Pro, which gives you a lot more *control* over security.
