"stats" folder on desktop

I have folder on my desktop that just appeared one day called "stats". It has 639 files with 6-8 digit names, most with the .wts extension but some have .dat The .wts all appear to be 46 bytes & the .dat 29 bytes. Those that I've checked have attributes of "hidden" & or "archive". It was created about a year ago & doesn't seem to have been a problem. In Find files & folders it shows up first as having been modified 2/2/03 @6:48 pm then again @ 6:51 pm. At the same time a link to Microsoft KBA140334 shows up. I was having problems with my sound at the time & most results of the folder search are WMP or Real Player related. The folder icons show up as a dim yellow in stead of the usual bright yellow in "find" but it is green on my desktop. I recently tried to send the contents of the file to the Recycle Bin but my computer froze. Anybody have any idea what this is about ? Could it be a security problem? Should I try to get rid of it or just leave it alone?
Thanks, bduff.

Have you read the KB article that you say there is a link to? Does all else on your PC function satisfactorily? You could try to move the folder to another location and just leave it alone, if there is no system problems presently being experienced. Have you run an antivirus scan on the folder?
