Windows File Protection - out of control
Hey all,
Im using windows xp pro, and i keep getting boxes that pop up that say " Windows File Protection....files that are required by windows to run properly have been replaced by unrecongnized versions....ect ect" I put the cd, and the box goes away momentarily, but then it just comes back! it says "put the cd in", but it is, then i click the "retry" button, but the same thing happens! it goes away, sometimes for a while, sometimes not for very long at all. If i run sfc /scannow from the "run" prompt, it dosent get anywhere, and i just get more "windblows file protection error" boxes..... Im about at my wits end with this windows crap, but all of my favorite games are windows based! there are no viruses on my computer, ram is ok, no spyware, ect, i just cannot figure this out!!! someone please help me! athlon 2600+, 36 gig raptor, 512 pc2700 ddr, 9800pro, a7n8x - delux THanks |

I think you might be wrong about the "no viruses" ( try housecall : http://www.trendmicro.com/en/home/us/enterprise.htm ) however, to use the XP cd properly you must boot from it.
That means you put the cd-rom first in the boot order and have the XP cd in it when you boot the computer. So go into the bios, Advanced BIOS Features is where you will find the boot order, and make the necessary changes, put the XP cd in the drive and save and exit. The computer will restart and you will see the " press any key to boot from cd-rom " notice. Skip the console repair screen and you will get to the screen that ask you if you want to repair XP or install it. Follow the directions. |

well, my avg found none, and symantec's online scan found nothing either
I was trying to avoid doing a repair, because that means hooking up my floppy drive and trying to find a floppy that is still good for my sata drivers. but, it looks like i might have to anyways. Thanks |
