XP back to win98

I am setting up a PC for a friend and I need to remove my XP and install an old licenced copy of 98 2nd.

Can I piggy back the HDD to another XP system and format it? If not maybe some advise?

Thank you.

Yes you can do as you suggest, or use win98 boot floppy or just boot from win98 cdrom. I'm not positive booting from win98 cdrom has ability to delete your existing NTFS partition, and allow you to repartition FAT32, and reformat the drive, but I'm guessing it does but for sure win98 boot floppy will do the trick and you probably can get one here:

Piggy backing did not work. Even as a slave that drive booted first??? Bummer.
Run the fdisk and deleted the NTFS partition. Rebooted and failed at trying to format. Had to fdisk, create a new drive in DOS, reboot into cdrom, set up 98 and it asked to format. Worked great. Thanks again.
DOS is still gooder!

98 boot disks don't do a good job of deleting NTFS partitions, sometimes not at all. Much easier to use delpart.exe and then use 98 boot disk to reformat/repartition to FAT32.

The slave drive thing will work but It still can not be the drive that the system boots from in order for winXP to work with partitions and formatting.. You probably just needed to check the boot settings in the BIOS of the PC you installed it as a slave drive in..
