old taskbar question
I know this question has been asked many times before. However, when I searched the forum I could not find the answer. I have windows 2000 and have installed a program that placed a small icon on the right bottom taskbar next to the time that initiates the program. I would like to remove it. I tried right clicking on it and nothing. I looked for something within program option settings. Still nothing.
How do I remove the icon? |

Right Click Task Bar>Properties>Customize>Select unwanted program and tell it to hide always.
That is the way I have always done it, appart from uninstalling at least. |

Perhaps I am looking at the wrong list. When I right click on the taskbar>properties I get the "Taskbar and Start Menu Properties" popup. I click on the advanced tab and then remove. The offending program is not on that list.

Ahh, that sounds like the "Start Menu" tab, try the "Taskbar" tab...(Meaning Right click>Properties>Customize(in taskbar tab)>selects the unneeded progam and tell i to hide always)
Hope its what you are looking for. PS-You may have to check 'Hide inactive icons' before the "Customize" option isn't faded out. Last edited by ZeratulsAvenger; 05-16-2004 at 01:23 AM. |

No matter where I right click on the taskbar>properties at the bottom of the screen I get the same "taskbar and start menu properties".

You can't hide the icon through windows in windows 2000, that feature is only in XP. The only way to get rid of an icon is in the program itself.
Edit:I think I've heard people talking about thirdparty programs that can hide icons. |

You can download a copy of the msconfig utility and use it to disable that particular program at startup.

You can't in 2k? Oh sorry for misleading ya, I just assumed. And ya, I would try to disable the corresponding program from starting up, as long as it's not something like AVG which ya want running
Hope aya get it fixed.

Some programs I have installed give you the option to have an icon placed in the system tray or none at all. Usually it's a small check box placed somewhere in the options and is hard to find, lol, but it could save you lots of time. HTH
