Check Disk won't run on C drive

Hi,

I have 2 internal hard drives on my computer. The "C" drive is partitioned and the partition is labeled "F". The other HD is labeled "E". I can run Check Disk on drive "E" and "F" but not on "C". I only have a system on the "C" drive. Does anyone have a suggestion as to how I can get Check Disk to run on the "C" drive. It should run as part of the start up process after it is scheduled to run.

Thanks for any help.

Hank

Thought I would update the above post in hopes that someone would have a suggestion.

Now on every boot Check Disk tries to run on "C" drive. I get a blue splash screen that gives me a 4 line message. Line one says check disk will check drive "C". Line two says the format is NTFS. Line three says Cannot open "C" volume for direct access. Line four says check complete and the computer starts normally. This blue screen is up for less than a second.

I have no schedule set to run check disk and when I set a schedule to run check disk it does the same thing.

Can anyone help?

Hank

All my disk are formatted NTFS and they run check disk fine. It's just my new install of XP that won't let it run. In fact I've run it on this very disk with the same install but something has happened to cause it to quit running. I don't know what I did to cause this.

Found the problem with Check Disk. I use Norton System Works and went to their web site to see if they had anything in their knowledge base on check disk and sure 'nuff they had an update that made everything whole. After installing the update I can now run Check Disk in Windows or Norton.

Bailey, Tried to edit my post out but didn't get back to the forum quick enough. All edits must be done within 720 minutes or the original post.

I frequently have the same problem!
