transferring files
I just finished building a new pc and want to transfer files from old one to new one. Do I have to start a whole new home network thing or is there a way I can use some sort of usb2 cable? thanks in advance

Hi kuby123,
Welcome to PC Mechanic !! ![]() The easiest way I know of is just to put the drive you want info off of into the new system and simple copy the stuff over. HTH TwoRails |

Or just an ethernet cross over cable. Drag and drop from one comp to the other through the Network Neighborhood. $5 for a cable, and I find it much easier, although slower in transfer speeds, to get the cable and not be moving harddrives in and out of eachother.
PS- I have done both and just figure the slower speeds(if you plan to transfer GB's of data, be ready to go watch some TV or read a book) and the 1 minute setup of the network is much easier than hd removal. Last edited by ZeratulsAvenger; 05-21-2004 at 09:12 PM. |

I tried to put the old drive into new pc (old one is maxtor 80), set jumper to slave, and started pc. First it booted from maxtor hd and said no op system, which is true. Inserted maxtor cd for booting and it tells me its only a 34.5 mb hd, when I know its an 80 mb. Anyhow, that didn't work so I put it back in old pc and am going to get transfer cable and do it that way. will post results for all .......thanks alot
