Angry Fire HELP! pc won't shut down

I just built a great new p4 3.0 with all the goodies running xp home. My problem is when I try to shut down pc. I click bottom left start, then click shutdown. Everything looks fine. message says pc is shutting down, I get xp shutdown sound, screen goes black, then 3 seconds (about) later the intro starts that says nvidia geforce 128.0 ram, then Intel logo, then reboots into xp. How do I fix this so that when I go away for long periods , I can shut down pc? everything else works perfect. thankyou

andyms: you were close! the site you gave says can be problem with roxio cd creator 5. I have roxio cd creator 6. I went and downloaded updated drivers and still the same problem. so, I uninstalled all roxio software but still no change. Now your site says to edit the registry but I'm VERY UNCOMFORATABLE doing that. I have to wait for microsoft to open on monday and correspond with them ..thanks...bty, if you think of anything else please let me know

till you get the windows boot menue and select safe moad when safe moad loads it will ask you if you want to use system restore chose not to use system restor and let it boot to safe moad when its finished click start shutdown and select shut down dose it turn off or reboot

Do you happen to have a Logitech mouse? I had the same problem when I built my PC and it turned out to be the Logitech mouse driver. I updated it and it has worked fine ever since.

here's what I did! uninstalled Restore It program from Intel, uninstalled "window blinds", uninstalled logitech mouse. And surprise, surprise! PC now shuts down and acts normal. I don't know which program it was but I don't need any of them anyway. Thanks for all the help guys,,,,,

I'll bet it was the Logitech Mouseware. If you want it, an updated version would cause no problems.
