Virus infected Explorer.exe
Hope there is a way around this. I have a HP pavillion 6735 that Bagle.n has infected Explorer.exe and the guy has some very important stuff on here that isn't backed up. I can't open Regedit or msconfig, it just blinks and closes. Is there any way to save this by replacing Explorer? Any other ideas welcomed.
I have to go out of town for a few hours so it may take me a bit to get back on. Any help appreciated.

Sorry, I should have mentioned that I have already used the removal tool and it took care of over 200 files, but can't touch Explorer.

What about slaving the infected drive in another well-protected system, deleting the infected file, and replacing it with a known clean copy? [the extra host computer doing the cleaning would want to be disconnected from any networks, and have up-to-date virus protection]

Thanks Gary! I should have thought of that, guess I'm too tired. I'll let you know how it works out.

Boot to DOS and copy regedit.exe to regedit.com, and try to run that in Windows. This should allow you in and let you fix what's wrong in the registry.
