Can you keep your registry locked so nothing gets installed without permission

I was just wondering if anyone might know of some way or hack to keep your registry locked so that it would not be possible for anything to install in your registry until you allow it.

I dont know if it's all you want, but the new Spybot Search & Destroy "Tea Time" monitor does a pretty good job of alerting you whenever something tries to modify the registry.
