Cannot run any programs on XP. Only part of the readMemory or writeMemory Request...
I get an error every time I try to run a program. It says "only part of the readMemory or writeMemory request completed". Anyone know why that happened, or what I should do about it?

Sounds like a ram problem to me. Test your ram and/or swap it out.

Switching the RAM didn't help. It was working, then the homepage didn't work. I kept getting some random search page. I ran my anti-virus program and Ad-aware. That didn't do anything, but then a black X appeared on my desktop and it said "Start". I deleted it, and since then, nothing worked. I find the Start thing again in the windows folder.

You have some kind of a virus. If you can get it up into Safe Mode With Networking you can go to housecall.trendmicro.com and get a free scan, you can also run Ad-Aware and Spybot in safe mode.

How do I get XP in safe mode? I have some Avast anti-virus thing. I ran that before XP loaded and it found several hundred viruses. It deleted them all, but it still doesn't work. I found some other guy on a gaming message board who had the same problem. He said all his files were corrupt and he had to format and reinstall. How would I format this hard drive? I tried using a start up disk, but it made C:\ the ram drive. I couldn't get to the hard drive to format it.

I may be wrong, but you could try going into your BIOS and setting the computer to boot from the A drive first, save changes and exit. Put the start up floppy into the A drive and restart....
From there you can format your drive c: at the A prompt.
