Question Help! Computer Won't Start Up!

I am running windows 2000, when I first started up my machine today, it gave me the error message as following:<>

The following file is missing or corrupt. \system 32\intoskrnl.exe <>

I then proceeded to put in my 2000 CD and restart, as that worked for me before. No such luck this time, but I did finally press F8 and tried restarting it to last known good configuration. After that I keep getting the following message.<>

Check for viruses, remove newly installed hard drives or hard drive controllers. Check harrd drive to make sure it is properly configured and terminated. Run chKDSK\F to check for harddrive corruption, and then restart computer. <>

What do I do? I'm confused, and no not where to start? Can someone please give me explicite directions on how to resolve this problem? I would so much appreciate it, as it is driving me nuts right now, and I really don't want to loose my hard drive, if it can be helped. PLEASE........if anyone knows how to help me, I'd appreciate it soooooooo much. Thanks!

Thanks bailey, but how do I go about installing the ntoskrnl.exe off the CD? I have no clue, as the machine won't start up. What would I type in if I go to F8 and what would I select from there? <>

Also now, I am getting an error that reads <>

Windows 2000 could not start because the following file is missing or currupt \WINNT\system32\c_1252.nis <>

Then it tells me select "r" at first screen to start repair. I do this, but nothing happens. Am I doing something wrong? Help would really be appreciate. I guess, I'm more computer illerate, then I thought. Thanks!

Have you tried running diagnostics on the drive?
You could try seeing if the computer will boot from the CD so you can install ntoskrnl.exe

I don;t know if this will work with your system because I use ME at the moment, but put the floppy boot disk into the A drive and it should automtically run it's diagnostics tools on the drive. Or there will be a list of options, and if one of them is to run diagnostic tools, select it.

did that, and all it said is drive A is okay, and drive C, but still not start up. Still gives me the error that inaccessible_Boot_Device and to check for viruses, remove newly installed hard drives or hard drive controllers, check hard drive to make sure it is properly configured and terminated. I have not installed no new hard drive. How do I find out if it is configured right?

Boot with the 2000 CD, press R for repair, then follow the prompts for the repair console. It will ask you to log into the administrator account, then give you a C prompt. Type CHKDSK /R at the prompt.
