Generic IDE Drives?
I just recently upgraded my m/b, cpu, and case and used the enum trick to transfer my old hardrives and Win98se files. (I have three of them, all Maxtors)
Everything has gone pretty smoothly except for one nagging question. Windows 98 sees the harddrives at the right sizes, 30, 13, and 8 gbs., but does not say they are Maxtors, just generic drives. My BIOS see that they are Maxtors, but not Windows. The drives are connected as Master and slave onthe first controller, and one slave on controller 2. Isn't Windows supposed to be able to recognize the name of them? It sees the names of all my other hardware(CD, DVD, souncard, etc.) Ron |

If windows loads generic drivers for the drives, then they are not always seen labeled with their brandnames.
As long as they are detected and they work, you shouldn't have to worry about it.
