I just finished my new build. (in my sig) and i cant get it to boot :-( I put 98 on it b/c i had it laying around, and just wanted to see that bad boy fly. But of course it wont run becuase I have a 2.8 and it only accepts up to 2.1. ( i get the NDIS windows protection error). So heres the quesiton...do i need to get the Upgrade for XP or the complete XP? I can boot up, but only in safe mode. The guy at best buy was 0 help.

Sounds like a typical BB salesman to me.....lol. I would get trhe upgrade. There is no reason to spend the extra $$ on the full install. I would however do a fresh install and not the upgrade option. Every single time I have tried to upgrade I have had problems. I could just be jinxed but when I go back and do a new install it runs great. Just keep that 98 disk handy b/c you will have to pop it in for XP to "see" the old O/S.

Save yourself some money and buy an OEM copy of XP home for less than an upgrade from Best Buy. Or if you want XP Pro. You can't beat free shipping and no tax.(depending on where you live) Also, keep in mind that OEM is a full install of Windows.

I agree with el novato. Get a full OEM version. With a upgrade version you have to keep track of where your qualifying OS CD is every time you do a load.
I know that WIN98 CD cost a lot more than it is worth on today's martket, but at some point we have to break with the past and move on. Chas
