Problem with a removable Xircom Modem & Network card on a laptop

Recently I formated the hard drive 'cause didn't know what to do when discovered the MS Blaster on my laptop (Hewlett Packard model 4150B with XP Pro upgraded with norton anti-virus not updated. After saw the message I shut down the pc and it started on safe mode where show me that couldn't end to load the Win XP 'cause had some files damaged or missing! So, tried to boot from the XP Pro Upgrade! Unsuccesfuly! Then I saw a message telling that I didn't have a oem license...I installed Windows ME but since then I couldn't start a dialing connection to internet. Please advise! Since a downloaded a driver for the Xircom...but didn't work!
