can not upgrade IE5 to IE6 windows ME

does any one know how to get windowsME to upgrade from IE5 to IE6.
IE6 will not completly install,
message given:
not all components have been installed. Previous installation that requires a re-boot.
gives the option to re-boot now, or later.
Help would be greatly appreciated.

All you should need to do is reinstall IE6. I am using that and I didn't have any trouble downloading it or running it. Although I did it as an upgrade from Windows update. You shouldn't have to reinstall ME, just use windows update if you already have another previous version of IE, it will show you an update for it.

Yes, to complete the install it will reboot. And as for Media Player 9, I also run that as well, and I got that from Wundows Update as well. I can't remember if I had to reboot for that install to complete or not. For media player 9 go here

As an after thought you may need to go to IE 5.5 to IE 6. Did it give you an option to update to IE 5.5?

Sometimes files get lost or corrupted probably that is the reason why you can't upgrade to ie6. just put your Me installation disk in your cd rom and when it ask you if you want to install me in the computer say yes and it will copy the me files on the current installation. This should fix and restore any missing or corrupted files. after the installation is completed go to windows update and download & install all the updates including IE 6

Before you go to the trouble of reinstalling ME try this first

Have you run scan disk and defrag lately? I always run scan disk thorough. If the above doesn't work you can try installing ME again, but there isn't a reason you can't install IE6 Or Media Player 9. Like I said, I didn't have any trouble downloading and running them on this system.

I have already installed windows ME from disk yesterday and tried to do that.
had the problem before, and still have the same probllem
this last attempt to update windows failed as well, however it did not give me the same message as the last attemps, and I was able to get through the download and it started to install components Web brouser 6, outlook express 6, then got this message.
"Set up was unable to install all the components. Please close all applications & try running Set up again"
this is a different message from previous attempts.

Did you have IE closed before you tried to update to IE6? You have to close your previous IE before it can install the update. Also your downloaded setup file is still on your system, so you can just go to that and click it to start setup again.

You are very welcome. Since IE 5.5 was a success, you will have NO problem with IE 6. Good luck, and am glad you didn't give up.

I could not install all components during set up..for IE6.
I recieved 2 messages during set up.
1st message was
"Set up was unable to install oll of the components.
please close all applications and try running set up again"
I had no running applications open.
IE was shut down, outlook express was not open.
After that, I clicked next, and got a second message.
"Not all components installed successfully.
The following components were not installed.
Vectore graphics rendering (VML)"
I do not know what this means at all.
does anyone have any thoughts.
I do know that oulook express upated to oulook express 6.
It appears that Windows has updated, but it tells me that not all of the components installed.
thanks all

One way to check to see what version of IE you have is to open IE and click on "Help", then click on "About Internet Explorer" That will show what version of IE you have. As for the VML, I don't remember if that installed on my system or not.
