help -Cant get msn video to play
New home-built pc with win xp home. new intel mobo with 10/100/100 pro dsl high-speed internet connection. Problem: use msn as home page and when clicking to msn broadband video clips nothing happens. The msn video page comes up but I cant load or play any clips. Its not isp because I plugged back into old pc and works fine. (old pc useing 10/100 ethernet card) What to do? Already tried msn support but no help; Intel support but ne reply. Do I have to get an ethernet card for new pc and disable onboard connection? Do I have to configure existing connection another way? Can somebody point me in right direction? thanks

Is it only on the MSN site that you can't get the video to play or are you having the problem with all sites that use Media Player 9 ?

What you want to do open Media Player>Tools>Options.
You need to look at File Types , to tell you what Media Player runs by default, and you want to look at Performance. Also look at Player to see if you have it checked to download updates automatically, you want that one by the way. Post back what you find. My guess is that you need to update Media Player and that that alone will solve your problem but it won't hurt to take a good luck at the way Media Player is set up. |

no msn video
Let me explain further. mp9 seem to be working fine.I checked all files and looked at all tabs in mp options. all ok. The only problem is when I go to my msn, then msn video. I click on short clip from playlist to move into play tray and nothing happens. wont play. All I see is two words under butterfly on screen saying preparing media. Also that line, moving left to right, just like at win xp load screen at bootup.
It doesnt stop "preparing media" so I have to hit stop button and close msn video page. any ideas? |

kuby123:
Can you play streaming video on your WMP not just from msnvideo? Have you tested it out with video from the net or video files stored on your local drive? |

Hi Statica, He says that the only problem is with MSN files and that everything else plays. I'd say the problem was with MSN except that it's a newly set up machine and something may not have installed correctly. |

For the issue at hand: I would check on 2 things: 1) In your IE security settings (I am assuming you are using IE) - (TOOLS > Internet Options > Security) Are you on custom level, and if you are on custom level Click the button for Custom level : Scroll down to the section on: Navigate sub-frames across different domains and ensure that you ENABLE it. I can duplicate the exact error as you experience (no progress after the Preparing media sign) if I disable the aforementioned setting. If you are using a default high security .. bring it down the medium and check it. 2) Are you behind a router or firewall that is blocking it? WMP should be configured with HTTP enabled. in your network settings. |

Hi Statica,
I checked My IE settings and then disabled Navigate sub-frames.... and got the same error. Since the rest of my settings match your recommendations that's the cause. Thanks for the lesson. Now all that has to be done is for Kuby123 to try it out on his new build and tell you if it worked for him as well. |
