Why did it do that?

I just installed a new hard drive. I set it as the master. I left my other 6GB "junk drive" in as a slave. I formated and installed Windows. However, the new hard drive is now drive F and the old one is C. I don't want that! I tried changing it in the administrative tools but it says I can't change the label of a boot drive. Why did it do this? Is there any way to change it now?

Windows is so smart, it saw "C" drive on the old slave It tried to protect you from yourself....

Unplug the slave and see what happens.

The drive used to be "E" not C. What do you mean? There are more problems then the drive assignment. The SB Audigy sound card I installed is detected in the device manager and It works because I can hear sound. However, WMP will not detect it and neither will the Creative EAX demo or the Creative diagnostic utility. Also, my scanner is not detected. The HDD activity light only comes on when accessing the old drive, not when accessing the new one.

I fixed the drive label problem. I did a quick format and reinstalled Windows and the new hard drive is now drive C. I also got the sound card to work properly by disabling the onboard sound (it was a jumper which I didnt' expect). The hard drive access light, however, still doesn't work right.
