I have a Toshiba laptop with XP home on it, with one user and a password. The password works, however, upon entering the password, you can see "loading your personal settings", then the desktop background flashes quick, then "logging off...", then "saving your personal settings".
It logs in and logs out so fast, I don't even see anything load on the desktop. I've tried both in safe mode and normal. In safe mode, I also tried going in under Administrator, but with the same result. Any idea how I can go about fixing it?

I have had the same problem. As a matter of fact, I have a post about this. Check out the replies to my post as it helped me. The thread is labeled Windows Activation?
