Plenty of people have been disappointed in Vista, it's highly documented. One only has to read the articles. Some here defend Vista as a worthy OS just needs some fine tuning like a Service Pack or so. I;ve read where MS disabled certain high end audio features in Vista. That's got to be a major bummer for audiophiles.

I'm just doing what I always do when M$ brings out a new OS - I'm sitting here happily computing with an older OS and watching everyone else debug it. I'll upgrade when I HAVE to and when it's more mature. I don't plan on selling or supporting any Vista machines at this time - I'm gonna wait till the headaches are all solved by OTHER people. I did the same thing when 2000 came out and when XP came out.

Well I went into buying Vista knowing that I'd be having problems. So far I've had less than I was expecting, but I've also yet to try everything out that it offers. I know Microsoft left certain options out as well, but I haven't been too affected by them yet.
Overall, I'm personally very pleased with my purchase. Is it perfect? Not by a long shot, but I know it'll only get better as time passes and updates come out. Would I recommend it for my parents? No. I think of the present moment Vista is only for people who have the patience to work with it and the know-how to fix problems that arise. You have to go into it knowing you're going to run into some kind of problem every now and then, but you get used to it. I'm keeping XP on my laptop though.

Well the new drivers are an improvement, but not all there yet. I wonder what would happen if i tried to install Direct X 9 on Vista?!? I better not mess with that idea. I think that most games should do well under Direct X 10, but any game that heavily relies in OpenGL is going to suffer GREATLY. For instance: the game that I have the most trouble with is Need For Speed: Carbon. Even on the lowest settings it plays in slow motion! What a dissapointment!
One more thing. Yes the Soundblaster drivers work, but they don't work as well as before. EAX is no longer supported. |
