Problems with Vista Install

Hey guys, Im trying install Windows Vista on the machine in my signature.

I am not upgrading from XP, I put a new clean 250GB HD in that is not formmated or partitioned - this is going to be the OS drive and the only drive in the system.

Heres the problem:

I boot from the DVD ROM with the Vista Disk inserted. The screen goes black with a progress bar at the bottom - "Windows is coping files". This take about 30 seconds.

After that, I am taken to a screen with a blue Windows Vista themed backround. I can see and have control of the mouse, with no "hour glass icon" next to it. There is no task bar, start bar or anyting on the screen for that matter, with exception to the mouse arrow. The CD is no longer spinning and my HD light show no activity.

I have no floppy drive so I cannot boot from a startup disk and format/partition it that way

This whole process takes a bout 1 and half min. I am never taken to a partition or format screen.

The only thing I can think of is to load XP (which I know works for sure) and then upgrade using the Vista disk.

Anybody have any suggestions?

Vista installs take much longer then XP....

No, the total process hasnt asked me for any input of anything.

It just doesnt seem right - there is absolutley no activity (ie CD spinning, HD light)

I let it sit for about 15 min. and nothing happened.

I get to the 3rd screen and it sits with no activity and no hour glass
