32-bit or 64-bit??

within the next month i plan on building myself a multimedia computer that is going to be future proof
this will be used for gaming, picture and video editting, music, movies, etc.
i was looking into using vista as an OS, i was planning on going with Vista Ultimate
but then i saw that there were 2 versions, a 32-bit and a 64-bit

what is the main difference between the two?

Thanks
