Can't change default email to Outlook 2003 in Vista

I'm trying to change Outlook 2003 to my default email program in Vista Home Premium. I've done some research, including looking up the subject in a 1000 page book I bought (Windows Vista In and Out) and looking online for a tutorial:

http://www.freeemailtutorials.com/mi...ndowsVista.cwd

I've configured Outlook 2003 with my ISP information and have done nothing with Mail.

I hit the start button, defauilt programs, and then set program access and computer defaults. The same thing happens if I select set your default programs. In this window the costum button is selected. Within this choice, there is no option to select Outlook 2003 as the default email. When I go back and select the Windows configuration button it gives the same two choices: Use my current email program or Mail. Within Outlook 2003 I have Outlook 2003 selected as being the default email program, but yet I don't see the choice showing up anywhere else.

This is a small issue. I just want Outlook pop up when I click on an active email link on a website when I want to contact them.

I'm wondering if this version doesn't interact with Vista the same way the email client in Office 2007 would.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Couldn't really find anything, but you might want to look here: http://support.microsoft.com/ph/2520

Could also try to re-install Outlook 2003. And make sure both it and vista are up to date.

Thanks for the reply Shadow. You have been a great resource for me since I built my machine. I truly appreciate your willingness to offer your help.

My Windows and Office 2003 are fully up to date. Since I didn't want to do a reinstallation just yet, I looked around a little more and found the exact same question I had. Here is the link to the solution:

http://www.winhelponline.com/article...-Programs.html

Option 1 didn't work for me. It didn't even ask for the installation disk, which I had handy.

Option 2 worked......downloaded, unzipped and ran. Outlook now shows up as being a default choice for email under "set your default programs."

I thought I'd post the answer here, in case the issue pops up for someone else.

Again, thanks for all your help.

Article no longer there

The article with the "option 2" solution seems to have gone.

I found reference to merging some mail registry details, but that did not work for me.

Do you have details of your solution that you can publish?

Regards

I fixed the problem four months ago and I don't remember a thing about how I did it. Sorry, without that article, I have no clue what I did to fix the problem. I looked for a zipped file on my hard drive that might have been the solution and I couldn't find one. I probably ran it directly from the web site, but then I'm not sure if you can unzip and then a file directly from a web site or not. It's a bit of a mystery to me.

You might try contacting the person that runs that web site and see if he can help.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

I have emerged this issue, but I found that should such a solution.
"E-mail account," there are good Tim, select the lower right corner of the "other settings," then "connected" card, where you select the link, if it is elected broadband ADSL. Just a re-link.

I'm wondering if nhs0111 replied to this thread by mistake. His post is a little cryptic and doesn't seem to have anything to do with the subject of the thread. I'm posting this reply in case he is subscribed to this thread and then can be notified of his post here.

BTW, I sent GBC the zip file I found. He has since reported to me that that worked for him.

This is Falvinp. I signed up for a paid membership and couldn't, for some reason, use my regular ID. I'm going to check into this.

Anyway, I haven't heard from you since I sent you a private message a week or so ago. I mentioned in that message that I would email you the fix. In the meantime, I have found another web site that has this situation explained and has a working link to the fix. It's located at:

http://www.winhelponline.com/blog/ou...ault-programs/

Hope this helps.
