vista hangs for about 10 seconds after boot..

When i turn on my laptop everything loads (as far as stuff in the system tray goes) and then it will hang for about 10-15 seconds where i cant click anything and i am wondering how i can go about figuring out what it is thats causing the hang... the internet is already connected, the anti virus is already loaded so i am really not sure whats causing this hang that happens at the same point every time the computer is turned on, anyone know what it is or how i can go about figuring it out myself?

It could be any numbers of processes that are loading in the background. Maybe your virus sofyware is checking for updates.

You could try START->RUN and type: msconfig and look in the startup tab. Might be able to disable a few things to help speed up the process.

That behaviour is pretty common on ram challenged vista machines and with vista, anything under 2GB is ram challenged.

oh my bad, its got 4gb of ram and a 2.2ghz core 2 duo processor. I have 4 things set to start up with the laptop: antivirus (NOD32), touchpad drivers, fingerprint reader suite, and bluetooth tray icon. other than this hanging the computer boots to the desktop within 40 seconds so its fairly quick as far as that goes.

Try stopping the fingerprint reader, and the bluetooth from starting up and see if that helps. I suspect one of those is searching for something and that causees the pause.
