installing old program
i am trying to install an old game (return of arcade) to my laptop without a floppy drive from floppies. i have an old desktop that i copied the files to from three floppies into three separate folders and emailed them to myself as separate attachments. copied them to separate folders on desktop and ran setup from there. also set properties of setup file to emulate win98. it appears installation goes okay but when i try to run a game i get an error message "cannot find file C:\program files\microsoft games\return of arcade\*****.exe {or one of its components}. check to ensure the path and filename are correct and that all required libraries are available." the window has a heading "can't run 16 bit windows program". the files appear to be all there in the proper place.
is it because vista won't run 16-bit programs? or could there be another way to install this? thanks for any help! |

That may be the case but the game is probably unsupported by vista. What game is this?

I guess I misread but yea the main reason would be that vista does not support older games.
It'll work in xp though ![]() http://support.microsoft.com/kb/148735 |

Some older programs can't read long file names or directories. Also some can't read spaces and "special" characters.
Instead of: "C:\program files\microsoft games\return of arcade\..." Make a path / directory that is DOS friendly and see what happens. |

thanks for the replies, guys. i will try tworails suggestion and make a new path. but on the old '98 machine it has a long file name and works. i was thinking? maybe something to do with file registration or installation procedure, for the most part since vista will run in a compatability mode (however it does that). was just throwing out that 16-bit idea for some thoughts.
