directory ProgramData is corrupt and unreadable. Run chkdsk ??
Not sure where I start to fix this problem
Vista boots and says: The file or directory ProgramData is corrupt and unreadable. Run chkdsk utility. So I go to C drive, properties, Tools Tab and try to check the errors and it tells me Windows is running and can not check for errors. I booted in safe mode and got the same thing. How can I check the disk? Most Menues I go to have nothing in them... I run IE and it has corrupt files... Not sure what happened Appreciate any help Thanks Steve |

Try popping in the vista cd and run a repair so it can see what problems your pc has and the solution to it.

This is what you should do, pop in the cd in your drive and restart. Go into bios and set the CD as first priority when it boots up. When vista loads, select the language, and there should be i believe two options to install, upgrade, or to repair. Is that what you did?

Well lets see what that upgrade does. It'll probably copy files that are missing. But if the problem still persist then run the repair.

Ok so I have completed the upgrade and Windows looks fine. Everything restored in it's menu. I now need to re install. Windows Defender is a pain it is blocking everything so I toned it down a bit, told it to stop bothering me. Now I have to re-install Quick Books and load the backup. I should be good to go.
Do any of you use McAfee? Can Windows Defender be shut off? Do you use it? Seems to me it has blocked 51 updates and now they are loading in. Seems like you don't have much control over this program. Thanks Steve |
