Will Vista support my hardware?

I've been reading mixed statements on whether Vista Ultimate 32-bit version will fully use all my resources. My computer has 4GB of memory and an Intel Quad Core Q9450. Will Vista Ultimate be able to support both of these fully? I've heard that it only supports up to 3GB of memory, that I need to have SP1, I've heard either edition of Vista Ultimate works, etc...

Is Vista Ultimate 32bit fine, or will I need 64bit?

Thanks for the help

The 64 bit version will be able to use all 4gb of ram. The 32 bit won't.

Unless you already have Ultimate, I would suggest you consider just getting Home Premium. That should offer more thatn what the typical home user will need.

Yea, all the add-ons on the ultimate, you can easily download them as 3rd party software.

Vista will hog about 1.2 gb of your ram so you have plenty. It will see 2.5-3.3gb of ram but the 4 gb is still there. It will only be seen as 4 gb.

I already have Ultimate and I do need features in it like IIS. That's not the issue though, I'm more concerned on 32 bit vs. 64 bit.

The retail copy I have of Vista came with a 32 and 64 bit version. Should I go ahead and use the 64 bit version if I have all the needed drivers?

It's your preference for whichever you use. I opt for the 32 bit as it is easier to manage as some hardware and software are incomptible with 64 bit. Some new games in the future are incompatible with 64 bit.

But if you don't game and you know that all your hardware and software that you are using support 64 bit, then shoot for it
