Vista password
If this would be a violation of rule 9, then please lock this thread.
I have a really good buddy (call him my brother) that has a Dell XPS laptop with vista installed on it. He forgot his vista password. The thing is, he has a thumb reader that will allow him to log on. I'm trying to help him change the password to something he will remember. I tried to talk him through restarting in safe mode and seeing if he could log on as administrator, but he said he didn't see the administrator option. Would there be a way to change the password once he's logged in since he can log in with the thumb reader? Seems like there should be.

Not a violation of Rule 9 because the user is able to log in.
What are his rights under the current login? Does he have administrator rights? Try this out: Press the Start button and in the quick search bar run the command : lusrmgr.msc. Hopefully there wont be a rights issue .. and it starts up. Click the users folder > right click on the current user > Set password... You should see a warning about changing the current user's password .. Proceed through it. |

I believe he does have admin rights.
I'll try to send him the instructions you gave. Hopefully it helps. Will post back once he tries it. |
