Pissed Reinstall VISTA from Backup

I had to reinstall Vista from a backup. Now the Boot (in msconfig) states (recovered) (c:\Windows) : current os; default os.

Is there a way to correct this.

Also, since the reinstall, IE7 is freezing at least once a day.

System is Intel 3.0 dual core, 2gig ram, 2 gig readyboost.

Appreciate your help

By the way Rich sent me here from the live broadcast.

If it says that in msconfig, and there are no other options, then I wouldn't worry about it.

Does IE7 always freeze at the same time, or on the same site?

How many windows and tabs do you have open?

Have you done virus and anti-spyware scans?

Defrag?

Not really worried about it, I just know that it is not right.

No viruses, trojans, malware. Been all through that. Using Spybot, CCleaner and Adaware. AVG 8.0 is used for protection with Windows Firewall and Defender. System is defragged. It is cleaned with Windows drive cleanup, and CCleaner once a week and then defragged. I may only have four tabs open, then IE7 will just stop responding. It sure has me puzzled.

Try an alternative browser like firefox and see if you get the same type of problem. Also, how are you connecting to the internet, wireless, wired, etc.? If you can give your basic network configuration and network related hardware, that may shed some light on your problem.

I received a new error today svchost.exe_PcaSvc. I have have not had time to research it yet. I have broadband service, 3 meg down, 256k up running through a netgear fvs318 router/firewall and then the cable modem. The nic is realtek RTL8139 onboard.

I am not fond of firefox, but loaded it. Guess I am use to IE. No freezes at this point. I did what Rich said last night, removed readyboost. IE stopped responding immediately. No other programs are crashing. Ran CCleaner. No problems. Ran Spybot, No trash. Ran AdAware. No Trash. It did this three rimes in a row. Each time I had over 900 megs of free memory. I don't think it is a memory problem. I am using Crucial memory. Memtest showed no errors.

Dang, I am stumped.
