Installing XP or vista

So I got a new computer today with vista, I dont like vista so i decided id get my xp disc so I boot into windows install and it loads for a while then boots into an error, So I thought hmm that weird so i get the vista install and it loads then say driver not found mscd001 cd rom driver not found the it loads an a: prompt

So I looked around and found this site http://www.acerpanam.com/flex/acerdr...TOKEN=64760419

I have a m1640 I found the post acer cd ISO image i burned it and booted, it boots and then says sysinfo not found ok

So what is the problem?

and also the weird is it can boot in to ubuntu and when i search mscd001 i find all stuff about win98

Could this be of a corrupted Vista install

thanks for the help in advance

XP has overwritten your Vista MBR, the boot sector, and the boot files.
How to install XP after Vista from Microsoft....... http://support.microsoft.com/kb/919529

you should pull that hard drive out , Hook it up to another computer with an adapter , Run Killdisk on it. Then find a copy of Partition majic and start all over with the drive. Relocate/partition/reformate. Then you can run a nice new install of XP Pro or whatever.
