No write permission for USB HDD
I have a USB HDD I'm using to back up my XP machines. I tried to create a backup image from my Vista machine but got an error message about not having permission to write the drive (even though my account has administrator privileges). I poked around a little and set the permissions in drive properties but that didn't fix it. Frustrated, I then disabled User Access Control and was able to create my backup with no further complaints.
I consider myself reasonably XP-savvy but I'm still new to Vista. What is the correct way to allow myself permission to write this drive when UAC is turned on? (I'm at least willing to give UAC a fair try before declaring it too annoying and leaving it off.) I'm running Vista SP1. The drive is a Seagate 500GB in a Coolmax USB enclosure. I have no problems accessing it with my XP Pro SP3 systems. |
