Vista upgrade

Hello all
My brother just got a new notebook. As we all know you cant buy anything with out Vista on it. I would reformate and install XP but Acer didnt make XP drivers for that system. I guess thats the story for most all new systems. I want to upgrade hime from Vista home basice to Vista ultimate. I have an OEM no key needed copy. Will a simple upgrade formate in any way. I dont want to losse anything on the system. After the upgrade the system will be the same ( correct )

Thanks

If you had Home Premimun you could do the Anytime Upgrade.

Since you have basic - you'll probably have to do a clean install.
