Vista 64-Bit BSODs

I recently finished building my new computer (in my sig) and installed Vista Home Premium 64-Bit (bought an OEM version of the disk when I bought my computer parts).

After installing the OS and the drivers for all my parts (got the latest drivers from the manufacturer's website, as well as updated the BIOS to the latest version ( BIOS was updated after the BSODs began )), I began to get various BSODs as I began to use applications/games. I've run tests for my various parts and all the parts seem to be in good, working order.

I've noticed that I mainly get BSODs or have applications crash if they are 32-Bit as I haven't had any problems running Minefield so far (64-Bit version of Firefox). IS there anything I can do to reduce the amount of BSODs I have (have already run Anti-Virus and Anti-Spyware; everything is clean) or is the issue with the operating system and there is nothing I can do about it?

I have a windows 2000 disk/license lying around the house and was thinking of partitioning or adding another hard drive with windows 2000 to use in case Vista 64-Bit is causing the BSODs.

Have you tetsed the overclocks in your sig for stability? Sounds like they may well not be stable. What settings do you have for that overclock?

That'd be my first guess.

First step when you run into roblems is undo any overclocking (as Devastator said) and any performance hardware settings (set BIOS to default).

I've heard, but not experienced it, that you should install the os at stock speeds to avoid errors. That might be a cause.

As for using 32 bit programs with vista 64, that alone will not cause the problems. I've been running vista 64 for over a year now, and haven't had that happen.

I installed Vista prior to overclocking with all the settings in the BIOS at stock. I overclocked my computer after I got my first few BSODs and after I updated the BIOS. I've run 4 instances of CPU Burn-in for 2 hours during which I didn't get any errors or have any BSODs, so the overclock should be fine.

I'm currently running the processor at 470MHz (Quad Pumped) FSB with 1.3725 Volts, the ram is running at 470MHz (Dual Channel) at 5-5-5-18 settings and with 2.2 Volts. All other volts are set to be 2 steps higher than auto.

Since overclocking, I haven't had more or less BSODs than before, so I doubt that the overclocking affected the system stability. One of the other issues I've noticed is that I get stuttering in audio and games from time to time.

I think I may be having trouble with the hard drive(s) since I get the disc check utility from windows showing up at startup once in a while where it doesn't find any bad sectors, but it makes changes to some files. I'll back up all my data to my seagate 500GB and run HDTach on both of the hard drives from there to see if any of the drives are defective. When installing one of the hard drives, the plastic bracket on the sata port of the hard drives broke off, but the pins were still arranged properly and the sata cable fit in fine; is this something that could cause the problems I'm having?

Might want o try this: http://support.wdc.com/product/downl...sid=30&lang=en

Also, did you run memtest? Have you tried with less ram installed? (I know I mentioned the possible problem with 4 sticks in your other thread)

And what is the stop code?

So far, I've had over 7 different types of BSODs with different stop codes, I'm having trouble running the computer for more than 5-10 minutes at a time before it crashes and gives me a BSOD (I'm currently using my backup PC). I'll try to get windows 2000 installed on my seagate 500GB first as I can't do anything properly right now while running Vista. I'll post back once I run memtest and WD diagnostics.
