Install SP-1. It fixes numerous bugs and should improve both stability and performance. Just my two cents; I really don't see any downside, particularly on a fresh install, and the number of bugs that are addressed in that sevicepack are significant.

I don't run vista, but from what I've read, SP1 is the way to go if you are running vista

I had no issues installing SP1 on my Vista Business install. I had been using it for 6 months and installed SP1 with no problems at all.
It runs just as stable as XP. As far as speed goes, I wouldn't know... I can't tell the difference between 1 and 2 blinks of an eye. |

one more question please ! shall I install the SP1 directly after finishing the installation of the fresh copy of the vista ? or I have to wait for some updates on the Vista ?? (I already downloaded the SP1 from Microsoft) |

I would just do the sp1 update right after the fresh install.

Sp1
I have tried on 3 different occasions to install SP1, but it will not install. It goes through the motions of installing, but after awhile it tells me it did not install. It gives no reason. What's up?

What version of vista do you have?
Where are you getting sp1 from? Do you have a legally purchased copy of vista? |

I'm assuming it's 32bit vista. If so, try downloading sp1, and installing it that way: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en

Sp1
Yes, 32 bit. Well, I tried the download link you provided, and it looked like it was going to work, until it got towards the end when I got the dreaded notice again that it could not be installed. Something about some changes it could not make, so as before, it restored the changes it did make and that was that. It did wipe out a couple programs I had that I had to reinstall. It seems any version of this SP1 has been a real pain to install. I've read several pros and cons of it so generally I've been avoiding it, but I thought I would give it another shot so maybe this is an omen to stay away from it, which is what I think I will do. I got my pc back to working like before and I'm happy with that. Thank you very much.

A certain set of drivers cause those types of problems with sp-1. Here's an article that goes into the problem in more detail:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/948343 If you're curious, you can check to see if you have any of the effected drivers. A driver update, if available, usually fixes the problem. |
