installing Vista HP 64

Currently running XP pro svc pack 3 32 bit. Have 3 seagate SATA HD, All AHCI. Two internal, one external .
Considering buying Vista Home Premium 64 . Wiping one drive. Disconnecting my C:\\ drive. Installing the vista on the empty drive. Then hooking the XP drive back up. Want to play around with Vista without screwing with what I know works well. I could put Vista on either an internal or external drive.
Vista upgrade adviser blesses everything except my scanner. Hardware as shown in my sig.
One reason to familiarize , Daughter 1000 miles away went from Win 98 to new Vista 64 rig Spect she will have question though I told her to pick up Vista for dummies.

Caveats, suggestions. Etc solicited.

Your rig looks like it will handle vista 64 perfectly fine.

The biggest problem, as you're already aware is the older peripherals. You might get lucky and find a driver that someone else made on their own, but more likely it just won't work.

I also wouldn't disconnect my C: drive when I install Vista. If you keep it installed, then you will get a boot manager so you can choose which os to boot from. Just have an empty drive, or partition to install it to ready. And make sure you direct vista to install to that empty drive/partition.
