Windows Installer is a Virus?

I am having a very annoying software problem with windows vista which i can not seem to fix.

Before i start ill just say that my PC is a custom built machine that is about 3 months old, the specs are: Windows Vista Ultimate 32, Intel E8400, 4gb Corsair Ram, Gigabyte 9800 GTX, ASUS p5k Pro, 500 GB Seagate HDD and a 620w Corsair PSU

A couple days ago i attempted to install the official version of Microsoft Office 2007. The original version was a 30 day trial that had expired. I placed the CD in and it began the Installation Wizard. It asked me to uninstall the original one which i did.
Either during the uninstall process or at the beginning of the installation it stopped completely and the following window popped up asking for where i installed Microsoft Office 2003

When i click browse and select the CD or Microsoft office from my C: drive nothing happens. If i click OK i get an error and it just try's to install Office 2003 again and then the same window eventually comes up. I can cancel out of it but whenever i open or delete anything it starts trying to install it again and i have to press cancel 3 times before Windows will do the thing i asked.
This is very annoying as it makes it very hard to do anything as i am constantly having to press cancel to this window popping up.
Note that both Microsoft office 2003 and 2007 are both still on my computer

I have attempted to run many virus scans and even system reverted back to the day before but both did not help.

Could you please give me some advice as to how to fix this problem? It would be greatly appreciated as it would save me having to pay $150 to take it to a PC Tech.

What happens when you pop in your Office 2003 cd and let it get the files the installation is wanting?

I don't know i haven't tried that yet, it just didn't make sense it was asking for 2003 files when all i was doing was 2007. Ill give it a go now and see what happens

EDIT: Nope didn't work, i get the same error as before

Might consider UNinstalling the 2007 trial version and rebooting.

Unistalling Office 2003 is also worth considering unless you really have to have it.

Ok i just tried uninstalling 2007 and 2003 through control panel, add or remove programs. When i click uninstall i get the window 'Windows needs your permission to continue', so i click ok but then nothing happens at all, its like i never pressed uninstall. I could try deleting them from my C: drive directly but i fear that could just make Windows more confused

Thank you very much, i managed to get Office 2003 uninstalled using that method and the window just stopped popping up. Turns out it was quite a simple solution after all i guess.
